Breaking down song lyrics is my utmost favorite thing to do, I mean let us be honest, lyrics are poetry sung with beats, and interpreting poetry is overwhelmingly fulfilling.
I listen to a particular song on the loop until its lyrics are engraved in my head. And once I remember the lyrics, I cannot stop humming that song. As I hum in the shower, during class, and while eating dinner, my heart starts to wonder about what those words woven into the melody stand for in my life.
किसीका प्यार लेके तुम
नया जहाँ बसाओगेये
शाम जब भी आएगी
तुम हमको याद आओगे
-Ajeeb dastan hai yeh/ Dil Apna aur Preet Parai
I know, I know I have already talked about this song but since my sister keeps playing this on her ukulele, I am still not done analyzing it.
Breakups.
The only pain that can be compared to you breaking mom’s imported Corelle Crockery is the pain you feel when your fragile little heart breaks.
I think this song is a breakup song and it does justice to its purpose- providing comfort on a lonely night.
I have noticed that what hurts more than the breakup itself is seeing them move on.
And I must give it to the composer of this beautiful song, he has portrayed this pain as poignant love.
He accepts the fact that his love will move on- “You will move on. You will find someone, you will fall in love again and you will build a world full of love with your new-found love.” But he very niftily says that even when you move on and find happiness, I will miss you. I will miss you not only when something reminds me of you, but I will miss you on every evening like this one.
So, this just means that no matter where you reach in life, you will always have love in your heart for those whom you loved once.
But does that mean, you never stop loving someone? Doesn’t it?
You don’t stop loving them, you just start loving someone else, someone new- a little more.
Love never vanishes.
You never really move on.
You always hold that person, memories with them, things that are associated with them, and all your love for them close, in a secret place in your fragile little heart.
Don’t you dare lie.
The sunsets still remind you of him, and that song did sound better with her.
You can never unlove some, can you?
Love is a constant throughout your life.
But, how much you love and whom you love varies.
No?
